ABOUT THE FLYNN

The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts is Northern New England’s premiere performing arts center. The Flynn offers a wide range of cultural and educational experiences and nurtures the creative development of performing artists. Our facilities include a 1,411-seat proscenium auditorium (Flynn Main Stage), a 180-seat black box cabaret space (Flynn Space), two education studios, a gallery with rotating exhibits of regional artists, and adjoining lobbies.

The Flynn hosts over 200 performances and over 50 camps and classes annually. Regularly scheduled performances include the Flynn season, which features world-class music, Broadway, theater, dance, and family performances on our Main Stage, with additional touring shows added throughout the year and weekday matinees presented through our Student Matinee Series, in addition to the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. The Flynn also provides a performance venue for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, the Vermont Youth Orchestra, Lyric Theatre, and other local arts organizations.

Basic Function

The Box Office Assistant Manager supports the Box Office Manager and Agents with the day-to-day operations and guest interactions both in person and on the phone. The Assistant Manager will train new-hires, process refunds, handle guest situations, and have all the knowledge available for the agents as it is needed at any given time.


Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise Customer Service staff during phone, window and off-site sales.
  • Perform Customer Service functions, including handling customer issues referred by other Box Office staff.  Respond to customer inquiries and complaints; investigate and resolve problems.
  • Supervise Box Office accounting procedures, including but not limited to daily reports & cash outs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of on-sale dates, discounts, software changes and related operating procedures. Keep informational bulletin boards up to date. Maintain Box Office Discount sheets.
  • Supervise and staff the Box Office on show nights. Resolve ticketing problems. Provide House Manager with the Night of Show report.  
  • Perform opening and end of day procedures as scheduled, including but not limited to accounting/close out procedures, bank deposits and ticket printing.
  • Provide promoters with daily ticket counts.
  • Ensure a positive work environment at all times and pass along any issues to the other supervisors.
  • Keep the Box Office stocked with office supplies and appropriate paperwork forms.
  • Perform regular ticket sales functions on an as needed basis.
  • Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma plus two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired. 
  • Ability to train and direct staff is a positive manner.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work well and problem-solve under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Familiarity with box office operations desirable.
  • Previous Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
