Basic Function

The Flynn is a multi-disciplinary performing arts center, maintaining a robust schedule of a diverse variety of shows. The Associate Production Manager will support Flynn-presented touring productions; shows and events from external rental clients; and Flynn-produced work, including the annual Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. 

The Associate Production Manager will possess an aptitude for creative and proactive problem solving and should show comfort and proficiency in taking the initiative during all steps of the production process.


Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Associate Production Manager will:
    • Submit all Flynn crew calls to the IATSE Local 919 Business Agent.
    • Record and input IATSE stagehand payroll for all Flynn shows and House Crew hours, following established payroll protocol and systems.
    • Apply for, coordinate, and manage all City of Burlington permits required for shows.
    • Process and respond to general production-related inquiries from other Flynn departments or external stakeholders; send all general production-related communications to other Flynn departments.
    • Assist with other aspects of the ‘advance’ process for incoming shows; serve as Flynn Production lead on shows as assigned.
    • As Associate Production Manager, serve as lighting, scenic, and/or audio designer of Flynn-produced work in the Flynn and at external venues.
    • Coordinate all external production rentals including lighting, audio, staging, backline, and other miscellaneous equipment.
    • Complete all production estimates for Flynn-produced shows; assist in completion of production estimates for Flynn-presented shows and shows presented by external rental clients.
  • The Associate Production Manager works in collaboration with the Flynn production team to directly supervise the load in, rehearsal/sound check, performance, and load out of shows in Flynn venues and Flynn-produced shows outside of Flynn venues.
  • The Flynn is an IATSE venue. The Associate Production Manager assists in communicating pertinent requirements of the Flynn’s IATSE contract to incoming show crews, ensures show budgets and schedules are created in compliance with IATSE rules, and fosters a positive relationship between the Flynn production team and the Flynn’s IATSE stagehands.
  • Other duties as assigned, such as researching and/or overseeing theatrical maintenance and capital improvement projects.



Supervision Exercised

Functional and partial administrative supervision of IATSE Stagehands.


Supervision Received

Supervision is received from the Production Manager and the Director of Production.


Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in professional theatrical production management, technical direction, stage management, and aspects of production design. 
  • Working knowledge of all areas of theatrical production and presentation. 
  • Thorough working knowledge of Windows operating systems, and the Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours; a significant number of evenings/weekends/holidays as assigned.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn rules and requirements of managing an IATSE-represented crew.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and prioritize in a multi-task environment is essential. Must be able to translate the artistic and financial concerns of the Flynn while ensuring the safe and successful mounting of productions/presentations.


Desired Qualifications

  • Direct experience with theatrical tour production, on the road or as a local stagehand.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Tessitura, Artifax, and other industry-specific software.
  • Experience with outdoor events, festivals, and non-traditional performance art.
  • Advanced knowledge of theatrical lighting design and programming with conventional fixtures, LED fixtures, and Moving Lights.
  • Thorough working knowledge of ETC Eos family software/consoles.
  • Thorough working knowledge of all aspects of theatrical production design including lighting/electrics, audio, scenic, and props/backline.
