ABOUT THE FLYNN

The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts is Northern New England’s premiere performing arts center. The Flynn offers a wide range of cultural and educational experiences and nurtures the creative development of performing artists. Our facilities include a 1,411-seat proscenium auditorium (Flynn Main Stage), a 180-seat black box cabaret space (Flynn Space), two education studios, a gallery with rotating exhibits of regional artists, and adjoining lobbies.

The Flynn hosts over 200 performances and over 50 camps and classes annually. Regularly scheduled performances include the Flynn season, which features world-class music, Broadway, theater, dance, and family performances on our Main Stage, with additional touring shows added throughout the year and weekday matinees presented through our Student Matinee Series, in addition to the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. The Flynn also provides a performance venue for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, the Vermont Youth Orchestra, Lyric Theatre, and other local arts organizations.

Basic Function

Assist the General Manager with oversight of the Flynn’s operations including maximizing resources and overseeing processes to ensure efficiencies across the organization. Manage staff responsible for rentals, front-of-house operations, concessions, and the volunteer usher program. Monitors operating costs, budgets, and forecasts to ensure that the organization meets stated goal.


Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the creation and management of budgets for front-of-house operations and facilities. Support the General Manger to keep track of all operation expenses and revenues and report progress, overages, or shortfalls to the General Manager and Director of Finance.
  • Provide onsite support and supervision during shows and events to the operations and front of house teams as needed.
  • Ensure a welcoming environment to audiences and guests as they arrive and develop procedures to create a high level of customer service is all areas of guest experience. 
  • Hire and manage house management staff including team scheduling, training, and evaluation.
  • Develop and maintain customer service standards for all front of house employees and provide training sessions and materials as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain a vibrant volunteer program and manage volunteer training and engagement. This will include ushers, greeters, event staff, and other positions as needed.
  • Work with Executive Director and General Manager to project manage a task force including staff, external consultants, and partners towards forming a strategy to maximize concessions and merchandizing revenue. Develop an action plan with this group plan to achieve these goals, and manage the steps necessary for their successful execution. 
  • Oversee all concessions and merchandizing operations including front line staff and supervisors. Ensure all inventory is properly accounted for and all concessions accounting is properly reported on show settlements and monthly statements.
  • Supervise and schedule vendors including maintenance calls and cleaning teams.
  • Work with Rentals Manager to optimize rental opportunities and revenue potential.
  • Protect the Flynn’s ethical and legal interests through all contracts, liabilities, insurance coverage, and financial procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, with availability during daytime, evening, and weekend hours
  • Other duties as assigned
