Basic Function
As a member supported nonprofit, the Flynn relies on charitable contributions through membership, individual donations, grants, and corporate sponsorships. With more than three decades providing performing arts programming, the Flynn has a loyal base of members and supporters and seeks to continually expand our reach and engage new audiences and supporters.
The Associate Director of Development works closely with the Director of Development to develop and implement fundraising strategies from individual, corporate, foundation and government sources. As the manager of the Membership Coordinator, the Associate Director of Development will help set and achieve goals for the team. This role oversees fundraising events and member receptions, member communications, donor solicitation, and grants, and collaborates closely with the Flynn’s Marketing and Finance teams.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the planning of the yearly solicitation campaign to achieve departmental goals
- Manage the weekly development operational plan and evaluate results against goals
- Collaborate with the Database Manager, IT, and Marketing to segment donor prospects using Tessitura analytics
- Provide support for the Board and staff with their solicitations (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, research, and help with donor communications)
- With the Development Coordinator, ensure donors and sponsors are acknowledged in a personalized and timely manner
- Plan and organize member-related cultivation events
- Create and manage other Development events as needed
- Maintain a strong night-of-show presence for Main Stage performances for meet-and-greet opportunities and member cultivation; build and maintain donor relationships
- Lead or participate in Student Matinee donor cultivation activities and Legacy Society activities as needed
- Manage grant identification, application and reporting process
- Other duties as necessary
Supervision Given
Supervises the membership coordinator.
Supervision Received
Supervision is received from the director of development.
Qualifications
- Five to seven years of relevant fundraising and grant writing experience
- Organized data driven project manager
- Ability to interact effectively with a broad range of individuals both in and outside the organization
- Ability to collaborate across departments to achieve Flynn goals- Must be a good team player
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- In depth knowledge of development software systems and data analysis
- Ability to prepare and monitor budgets
- A passion and understanding of members and donors with the ability to problem solve and accomplish a positive result
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours as duties required
- Supervisory and project management experience
- Knowledge of and passion for the performing arts is desirable
