Basic Function
As a very public-facing position, one must provide professional service that ensures the well-being and safety of patrons and theatre during Flynn Center events. To coordinate, oversee and conduct ‘Night of Show’ security and facility needs, and support fellow Flynn staff during such events.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities
SECURITY
- Must provide a high level of customer service and assistance to guests, staff, and contracted personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
- Supervise and lead contract security.
- Perform security patrols of the campus before, during, and after events.
- Observe for any conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
- Respond to emergency situations and/or alarms and contact appropriate emergency services based on the situation.
- Monitor for the presence of unauthorized persons.
- Communicate and coordinate with local PD and FD/EMS when necessary.
- Maintain access control of premises and monitors entrances and exits.
- Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.
- Interact with irritated individuals in a calm and controlled manner when required.
- Must be able to complete DLC certification and CPR/AED training.
facilities
- Conduct day-of-show house and backstage custodial/maintenance functions as requested.
- Oversee HVAC controls, and its’ adjustments as needed.
- Work with and assist in supervising Flynn custodians and volunteers for general after show cleanup of performances spaces, and relevant waste stream sorting and removal.
- Assist in closing the facility after events have concluded.
- Stock concession supply if requested. Must be able to lift and carry full kegs (approx. 50-60 lbs.), cases of water and /or buckets of ice.
- Remove snow and ice from all entrance/exit areas, sand, and salt. Must be able lift 60-pound bags of salt and sand and be able to shovel snow.
- Perform general street front, parking lots, and grounds cleanup and patrolling.
- Perform various building security and fire prevention functions: check locks; check for and report incidents of vandalism; see that doorways and aisles are clear of obstructions; and the like.
- Perform the Fire Department pre-show check of emergency lights and egress ways and maintain log.
- Collect, sort and prepare/package and manage recyclable materials program.
- Set up for various special events sponsored by The Flynn. Be available to move furniture, tables, stanchions, waste receptacles, and stacks of chairs.
- Inspect facility for maintenance/repair needs and address if possible, and/or report for next day follow up.
Supervision Received
Supervision is received from the Facilities Manager and/or Director of IT/Security. Takes direction from the House and Bar/Concessions Managers, and other Flynn staff as needed.
Requirements
- Take direction from Flynn Management; work collaboratively with other Flynn staff, as required.
- Availability and flexibility to work nights and weekends based on performance schedule.
- Be able and willing to work all shows, all genres, including music concerts.
- Ability to follow protocol and remain calm during an emergency.
- Positive, engaging personality, and professional appearance.
- Possess excellent customer service skills to help ensure our patrons have a positive experience.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Perform other duties as required by fellow event staff.
Qualifications
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Basic computer/email skills
- Ability to collaborate with, and make decisions with, the other event staff.
- To deal courteously and efficiently with patrons, vendors, contractors, staff, and other visitors
- Physical ability to perform all essential job duties.
- Reliability and self-motivation.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule of evening and weekend work.
- Good basic trades/mechanical skills.
