Job Description
The General Manager serves as the Director of Operations at the Flynn, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for employees, patrons, guests, and artists across our campus and for all Flynn produced and presented events. They oversee and support a cohesive team among multiple departments and act as a supervisor and sounding board for staff responsible for facility maintenance and appearances, IT, security, production (including both union and non-union staff), front-of-house operations, and rentals. Their efforts are crucial in supporting the Flynn as it meets both its annual goals and its daily functions and they help focus the organization to maximize resources toward aligning operations with strategic artistic and educational initiatives.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and direct Operations to ensure the achievement of the Flynn’s organizational and financial goals.
- Collaborate with Operations teams to ensure safety and security of people, the facility, and technology throughout the Flynn Campus and at all Flynn produced and presented project off campus.
- Develop, outline and implement plans and strategies to increase the profitability of revenue centers such as rentals and concessions. Work with marketing to track data and make appropriate adjustments for financial growth.
- Help the organization prioritize mission and guest experience while balancing artistic initiatives with operational and capital needs
- Develop and maintain budgets, working with the operations teams, ED, and Director of Finance to ensure goals are met.
- Oversee and manage all operations including budgets and schedules, tracking data on progress and making appropriate adjustments to maximize efficiency
- Manage the Flynn’s Capital Budget; collaborating with staff on determining projects and priorities.
- Participate in Board of Trustee meetings and committees as required.
- Schedule and lead Operations staff meetings to discuss upcoming and current events, potential issues, feedback and to lead the group in creating solutions while empowering the team to problem solve and take active roles in their responsibilities
- Train, guide, and mentor employees as appropriate and evaluate their performance and productivity in completing their job duties.
- Work with ED on organizational structure and workflow, building an effective team that respond to the many communities we serve and supports the needs of all employees and guests
- Act as a partner, strategic ally, and service center for the Programming, Education, Marketing, and Development departments
- Manage Collective Bargaining Agreements for unions affiliated with the Flynn and negotiate contracts as required

Supervision Exercised
Directly and indirectly supervise operations and facilities teams including: Director of Production, Director of IT/Security, Facility Manager, Rentals Manager, and Front of House Manager.
Supervision Received
Reports to the executive director.
Qualifications
- Five or more years in a management role at a live performing arts venue in either an operations, facilities, or production department
- Experience managing large groups of people and demonstrates strong leadership qualities
- Experience working with IATSE and is familiar with collective bargaining agreements and union contracts
- Good knowledge of budgeting and forecasting
- Able to empower staff to solve problems and delegate efficiently using data to measure goals and progress
- Decisive and calm under pressure
- Comfortable with ambiguity/changing circumstances: demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
