Basic Function

The role of the Grants and Donor Communications Manager requires exceptional proficiency in both written and verbal communication, along with a proven aptitude for effectively overseeing multiple projects simultaneously. This position will be responsible for formulating and executing a comprehensive solicitation strategy encompassing various stages, from identifying potential prospects and fostering relationships, to composing propelling proposals and ensuring proper stewardship. Our affiliations span across local and national foundations, including prestigious institutions like The National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), The New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA), and The Vermont Arts Council, (VAC) requiring a versatile individual who is comfortable within diverse realms.


Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all stages of grant proposal preparation, submission, and subsequent management in close coordination with various departments.
  • Create and manage intuitional messaging through donor letters, web narratives, grants, and other key communication platforms to ensure comprehensive and consistent language around donor and member impact and organizational need.
  • Skillfully manage creating, tracking, and organizing comprehensive funder reports. 
  • Monitor and track pertinent statistics related to development efforts, providing the department with essential written materials for donor stewardship purposes.
  • Conduct extensive research into potential funding opportunities through research and analysis while managing a diverse portfolio of prospects. 
  • Articulate persuasive grant proposal narratives for general operating funds and targeted project grants.
  • Strive to achieve the annual grant fundraising target, demonstrating a strong commitment to meeting goals.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow development team members and board representatives during solicitation efforts.
  • Identify Flynn projects and programs that align with the specific interests of various foundations, strategically planning solicitation approaches.
  • Cultivate and nurture professional relationships with program officers, ensuring effective communication before, during, and after grant cycles
  • Diligently adhere to reporting and evaluation requirements, ensuring the fulfillment of all necessary obligations. 
  • Maintain up-to-date records in digital databases and physical files, encompassing grant tracking and reporting details.
  • Develop a comprehensive grasp of Flynn's institutional history and program offerings to effectively convey its value to potential donors.
  • Perform additional duties as needed or directed, exhibiting a flexible and adaptable approach to contributing to the organization's success.


Supervision Received

Supervision is received from the Director of Development.


Qualifications

  • A track record of three to five years demonstrating successful grant proposal composition and management within an artistic field.
  • Proficiency in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship techniques, primarily within grants and corporate giving.
  • Exceptional written ability and strong presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Skilled in facilitating dynamic interactions, and effectively conveying institutional objectives to potential funders.
  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, showcasing flexibility in accommodating evolving demands and priorities.
  • Displays high creativity, energy, and initiative in all endeavors.
  • Proficient in setting, measuring, and achieving income goals, demonstrating a strategic approach to fundraising targets.
  • Exhibits both collaborative teamwork and self-reliance as the situation demands.
  • Highly personable with an ability to represent the Flynn across diverse interactions, with a deep understanding of the Flynn's mission, effectively communicating it to others.
  • Familiarity with fundraising technology and integrated database systems.
  • Availability for occasional evenings and weekends, required for attending performances, education initiatives, donor receptions, and other mission-aligned activities.
