A Rivoltade For Traditional Ballet

A review of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, who performed on the Flynn MainStage Sunday, March 31.

From the beginning of their pre-show announcement, a darkly comedic impression of the announcements for a Russian ballet, it was evident that Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo was there to both entertain and impress.

With a delicate patter of pointe shoes, the Trocks made a show of their excellent physical comedy and prowess, easily sliding back and forth from the highly trained form of a dancer to the slouch of a highly offended swan.

Whether in waistcoats or petticoats, the dancers of Les Ballets Trockadero displayed their talent with expert lifts and choreographed chaos, perfectly drawing the eye to the next joke.

The Trocks truly show that the lines between the sophistication of ballet and the bawdy glamour of drag can be entirely erased.
