Christopher Smith is a regular with the Birdland Big Band at the world famous Birdland Jazz Club. He has also performed with Dick Oatts Quintet, Joe Magnarelli Trio, Andrew Gould Quartet, and Garry Dial Trio, as well as supporting turns for artists including Randy Brecker, Rufus Reid, Gary Smulyan, Benny Green, and Rich Perry in venues such as The Blue Note, Smalls, Chicago Jazz Festival, Telluride Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Club, and Jazz Showcase. No matter the venue or situation, he strives to make the music swing. He is also passionate about jazz history, publishing the book The View from the Back of the Band: The Life and Music of Mel Lewis and a dedicated educator, having taught at the American Library in Paris, Eastern Washington University, University of Wyoming, Luther College, and University of Montana.
