In partnership with the New Music On The Point Festival, Nicole Mitchell Gantt and the Bergamot Quartet will present a concert of Mitchell Gantt's genre-defying original compositions. Mitchell Gantt is an award-winning creative flutist, composer, conceptualist, bandleader and educator whose work celebrates contemporary African American culture. A United States Artist, Doris Duke Artist, and recipient of the Herb Alpert Award, she is perhaps best known for her work as a flutist, having developed a unique improvisational language and having been repeatedly awarded “Top Flutist of the Year” by Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll. She will perform alongside the Bergamot Quartet, the New York City-based string quartet that specializes in music by living composers, with a particular focus on works by women. Their concerts blend innovation with classical roots to create thought-provoking and engaging performances.
