About

In • ter • sec • tion is a dance piece exploring the way people move through the world, and the constraints imposed on those who are aging or facing limitations in their movement. As the dance proceeds, we see the ways in which movement becomes a celebration of life. For these dancers, physical expression is a joy that inspires both dancers and bystanders to move beyond physical limitation to a place of freedom.

In • ter • sec • tion is choreographed by Sara McMahon and revised in a collaborative process with dancers from the Flynn’s Movement for Parkinson's class during McMahon’s Flynn residency.  The piece features dancers with Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders, who bring their unique histories, memories, and movement challenges to the work and incorporates dancers’ families and friends who range in age from 13 to 84.

In • ter • sec • tion is supported by a Vermont Arts Council Creative Aging Grant.
