Marty Fogel (saxophones, clarinet, flute) has played and toured internationally with major jazz artists, including trumpeter Don Cherry and baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan. He also spent several years performing and recording in the band of the legendary rock artist Lou Reed. Marty was a cofounder of The Everyman Band, an innovative and internationally acclaimed group that toured throughout Europe and recorded for ECM Records. He also recorded an album under his own name, entitled many bobbing heads at last...., which was released on CMP Records. Over the years, Marty has been fortunate to perform in a wide variety of musical styles with great artists such as Ed Blackwell, David Bowie, Trilok Gurtu, John Lee Hooker, David Torn, Nana Vasconcelos, Colin Walcott, The Four Tops, The Spinners, and The Temptations.
He was also a member of Djangle Box Project, Diane Moser’s Composers Big Band, The Erick Storckman Septet, Ron Aprea’s Big Band, The Ayn Sof Arkestra, and a variety of other musical formats as leader or sideman.
Since moving to Colchester, Vermont, in 2017, Marty has had the good fortune to perform with some of the area’s finest jazz players. He currently performs with his own groups, Marty Fogel’s Mixed Bag and ClearFog Duo (with Tom Cleary and Thread of Blue). Marty has also been a recipient of a performance grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which funded several concerts of his original music.
