Pedrito Martinez was raised in the Cayo Hueso neighborhood of Havana with a foundation in rumba and Afro-Cuban Yoruba traditions. Since settling in New York City in 1998, he has recorded four albums as a solo artist, including Grammy-nominated Habana Dreams; has recorded or performed with Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, Paquito D’Rivera, Chucho Valdez, Bruce Springsteen, and Ruben Blades; and continues to lead his own quintet “[that] is writing a new chapter in Cuban music history” (NPR Music)
