Student Matinee Series

Sunny Jain's Wild Wild East

Grades K - 12

About

Sunny Jain takes audiences on a journey through musical explorations in jazz and bhangra, the music of Punjab. As a drum set player and dhol player (a Punjabi folk drum from the South Asian subcontinent), Jain and his band will demonstrate the universal language of music and how sound has no boundaries or borders. The immersive show will allow participants to learn bols (syllables of North Indian drumming), improvise, dance, and will highlight how all human beings are connected through vibrations.

Audiences will learn about and are exposed to:

  • · South Asian culture: dhol drum, dance, rhythm, language, history.
  • · Rhythmic ideas through the use of vocalization, movement and tempo.
  • · The idea of improvisation and imagination
