Student Matinee Series

VSO Young Person's Concert

Grades 7-12

The City of Burlington's Great Streets initiative is ongoing. Visit the city's website for information about Main Street construction and detours. Please allow extra time to get to the theater.

Join the 70 musician-strong Vermont Symphony Orchestra for a live exploration of two iconic and powerful 20th century ballets: The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky and Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev. Multiple cameras capture the orchestra in close-ups on a large screen, accompanied by other visual elements, giving the audience an intimate view of virtuosic musicians as they tackle these demanding and thrilling scores. Music Director Andrew Crust leads an immersive discussion on the background and creation of these masterpieces, guiding the audience through the lives of the two composers, the story of the ballets, and how a large symphony orchestra makes these stories come to life through sound.

Student matinee performances illustrate the dynamic relationship between the performing arts and the subjects explored in the classroom. Tickets are available at a discounted rate of $10 for schools and homeschoolers.
