About

Movement for Parkinson's is about more than moving and dancing, it's about gathering together and creating joy. In this class, building a strong community is just as paramount as building a strong body. There is no one way to dance! Each dancer is encouraged to modify movements to meet their own comfort level. This class provides a fun, welcoming, and creative environment where people can explore the potential of their own movement at any age or stage of Parkinson's.

TOGETHER WE WORK ON

  • Increasing range of motion
  • Core strength
  • Balance
  • Flexibility
  • Coordination
  • Posture
  • Expression
  • Creativity

WHAT OUR DANCERS ARE SAYING

“Parkinson’s is a lousy diagnosis and this class is an amazing, amazing experience… I couldn’t have found a better group of people to go through this with.”

“This class has really brought me on a magical movement journey that I never would have imagined could happen for me.”

“Dancing with sara is the best thing about having Parkinson’s. Admittedly the list of things to love about this disease is short!   But the truth is her dance classes and the strong community of us who dance together is something that I am grateful for every day. It gives me strength—both physical and mental! It brightens my outlook and brings me joy. Thank you sara!”

CLASS

  • If you are participating via Zoom, it is most important that find a chair that offers stability and allows you to move comfortably. Ensure that you have 360 degrees of space (extend arms and legs to reach all around). Please look around your space and remove any obstacles such as, canes, walkers, plants, rugs, or pets. It is fine to stop whenever you need to for medication or water breaks.  Good to have a water bottle right next to chair within your reach. I want to encourage people to participate with a loved one at home for maximum safety (and enjoyment). If at anytime you are feeling discomfort with a movement please stop and find a movement that is in your range of motion, flexibility and level of comfort.
