About

VSO’s season concludes with Vermont composer Alexandra du Bois’ Fanfare inspired by the civil rights movement. Morlock’s evocative piece follows, a tribute to the tragic yet inspirational life and death of Canadian teen Amanda Todd, performed in partnership with the Me2 Orchestra, an organization battling stigma against people suffering from mental health issues.

Mahler’s sprawling Symphony No. 1 is a fitting season finale with gripping and virtuosic orchestral writing that leads the audience on a profound and unfettered emotional journey, musically exploring topics such as love, rejection, nature, longing, youth, and mortality.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is preceded at 6:30 p.m. by Musically Speaking, a free pre-concert discussion that provides entertaining insight into the evening’s program.
